Vancouver Island Java User Group VIJUG

Our Mission

The Vancouver Island Java User Group VIJUG aims to provide a platform for all Java enthusiasts to network, exchange ideas, share knowledge and help each other in order to strengthen the Java community in Victoria and on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. Our users come from Vancouver Island's considerable high tech community and multiple universities and colleges. We encourage anybody from beginner to expert interested in Java, related technologies and our community to join us.

VIJUG is part of the community of Java User Groups at java.net supported by Sun Microsystems.

Free Membership

Membership with the Vancouver Island Java User Group is free. Simply join the mailing list and come to our meetings. At the moment we are about 125 members with a wide ranging background and experience mostly located in Greater Victoria.

Monthly Meeting

Meetings are held every fourth Thursday of the month and are a great place to meet us. We maintain a list of upcoming meetings with meeting venue and presentation details updated as soon as we find out. Detailed announcements are published in our news and meeting announcements section.

News

The news section is open to any news of local interest related to VIJUG and our activities. Please contact the VIJUG team, if you would like to have a news item posted. The RSS feed for our news can be found here.

Mailing List

The mailing list is the central communication and membership tool of our user group. Join the list and administrate your account on the list user interface.

The list is only open to member postings. If you would like to post a message (e.g. an employment opportunity) feel free to join the list and post your announcement. Otherwise you can send the announcement to the list administrator..

Java Involvement on Vancouver Island

We have started to compile a list of companies on Vancouver Island using Java. Please let us know if you know of any others. In the future we might also include links to others Java users in our area, if there is demand for such a list.

VIJUG Up Island

In addition to most member residing in Victoria we support other members across the island. A group of dedicated members from Nanaimo is meeting regularly and organizing car pooling to get down to Victoria for the monthly meetings. In addition to all the other available VIJUG infrastructure available to everyone we have a contact email for specific topics related to these trips.
